About Us

Competing at the Show Ski Nationals is the goal of every competitive show ski team in the country. The silver Lake Ski Club has competed at the nations many times in its history; placing as high as 3rd in 1983. Only 14 teams are able to compete at Nationals, and we want to be one of them.

The Silver Lake Ski Club has dominated the Michigan State Show Ski Tournament, winning the title 18 out of 22 years that the tournament has been held.

Members of the Silver Lake Ski Club learn from some of the best show skiers in the state of Michigan about the following disciplines.

As members become proficient at these skills, they get a chance to earn a spot on our show ski team performing in our shows each week at Silver Lake Park in Fenton, our traveling shows on some weekends, and our competitive shows at the State, Regional, and National level.

To become proficient at show skiing takes a level of commitment. We typically practice on Monday evenings, Thursday evenings, and Saturday mornings and conduct shows on Tuesdays at 7:00pm. Our summer season runs from early June to mid-August. Whenever possible, the ballet line holds additional practices as well. We begin indoor practices in early February and then move outside in May. We also ask each of our members to help the club achieve its goals by participating in fundraising activities, recruiting, and other club functions to promote the team.

As with other team sports, each team member is critical to the success of the overall team. Missing practices or shows affects every other member of the team, as well as the team’s ability to achieve its goals. While we recognize that members have jobs that may have travel requirements or other such reasons for missing occasional team events, we do encourage our members to minimize these absences by scheduling events that are controllable, so that impact to the team’s success is minimized.

We are very serious about what we do, and we have a lot of fun doing it…. Especially when we bring home those trophies!
